Russian to judgement
It’s been a while since the media was employed to start a major war, especially in Europe….. let’s have a look at the facts
I don’t know why the media has such a hard on for Russia, if they aren’t fabricating the Brexit vote or getting Trump elected …. Well they are subhuman slime for invading countries but is everything true that we are being spoon fed by a media anxious for your sons and daughters to become a piece of land that is forever England in a foreign field?
When the USSR collapsed in 1990/1, it shocked everyone, not least the CIA analysts paid to predict it. It was a mess, centuries of empire and 7 decades of soviet rule left populations that were diverse mixes of the former empires members and borders that were meaningless because they hadn’t been altered in a century or more because as part of the soviet blob they were meaningless. Many people predicted border squabbles for decades resultant from the unifying force of the area ceasing to exist and so it transpired.
Russia was antagonist in many of these disputes but not all, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been scrapping on and off since 1990 over Ngorno-Karabakh and that war got really dirty, on one occasion Azerbaijani forces took to raiding hospitals and disembowelling pregnant women. When the soviets fell the world should have aided the constituent countries and brought about an end to border disputes but instead corporatists smelled profit in recruiting countries into NATO and rearming their militaries.
During WW2 many captured soviet states saw German rule as a way to escape Stalins genocidal grip on them and willingly contributed troops for the war and Jews for the death camps, foremost in these collaborators were Ukraine and the Baltic states, it has to be understood though that the Ukrainian people had the horrors of the holodomor fresh in their minds , six million people starved to death just so that Stalin could gain foreign capital from selling their food. So the Ukrainians switched from one insane dictatorship to another and willingly raised battalions for the SS, that ultra nationalist element still persists in the form of the azov battalion who actually wear Nazi insignia and the Yatsenyuk Government placed several ultra nationalists in key positions in the interim government post revolution in 2014. The pro Russian / ethnic Russians seeing their votes become worthless, set up two autonomous areas in the East and the south east of the country …. Admittedly with a lot of support from Russia. These enclaves are what current events are all about.
The observant of you will note that I’ve skated right past the seizure of Crimea, I’ve ignored it because the territory was the property of the Russians going back centuries and was gifted to Ukraine by Nikita Khrushchev as a “present” to his Ukrainian wife/ girlfriend Nina and of course it didn’t matter because it was soviet territory and the Union would never fall.
There are strategic matters that need to be addressed, Russia/ USSR has been invaded three times since 1812, once by France and twice by Germany. The Russian strategy was and is based on a concept called deep battle, essentially to keep retreating until the enemy overextends its supply lines , when the soviets “liberated” Eastern Europe they saw an opportunity to create a buffer between them and any attackers which would mean that the deep battle wouldn’t necessarily be on Russian soil . When the Union fell the Russians depended on keeping the neighbouring countries either neural or under their influence, a strategy that in the most part failed miserably as both the EU and NATO have succeeded in wooing the Baltic states and most of east Central Europe into various western organisations and Putin has been unwavering in his opposition to the west recruiting Ukraine into the club. The last German invasion of Russia killed between 20 and 30 million people and the commentariat and western governments feign amazement at Putin not wanting NATO tanks on his front lawn .
This is a faux dispute that has been created by the neoliberal forces in the EU and NATO , now don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of Putin, he’s a corrupt murderous gangster , the president of Ukraine has imprisoned opposition leaders and shut down opposition media so what I see is two tyrants kicking lumps out of each other and the only casualties will be ordinary people , sad but I’d rather that the casualties be Russian and Ukrainian rather than British and American…….
